Here are some pictures for my 32" Subwoofer project. I  started this project in the middle of May 2002, more pictures to come. I am using a Clarion SRW8000 32" Subwoofer for this project. Here are the specs on this bad boy:

   • Fs: 17 Hz / Qts: 0.40 /Vas: 2.836 litres

   • Frequency Response: 5 - 1,000 Hz

   • Efficiency: 97 dB/W/m

Here is the subwoofer after being unboxed, what a monster. Nyxnox just happen to be at the shop while it was delivered so he took at picture with it also.

Here what others have to say about this project already

"Your my hero" - Chris di Palma

"Good god man. You are a nutty mutha ;)" - DC | Kaos

"Eds the only guy I know with a subwoofer that could kill someone" - Nyxnox

    "Oh Boy!" - Kornchild

Pictures of the front baffle plate. I glued 2 sheets of 3/4 MDF together, 36"x36" each sheet. I made a custom jig from a piece of acrylic I got at home depot for $2. Shortly after taking this picture I wasnt careful and broke it, doh, and had to make another.

Some more pictures of the box with the bracing installed. The last frames I was testing to make sure the sub is going to fit. The box measures 36"x36"x13.25". The net internal volume is 14593 liters, 8.44 cu/ft. I ran some subwoofer simulations and wanted a final volume of 5.88 cu/ft. Deducting the internal bracing & an estimated displacement of the subwoofer, I got pretty close to this number. I used the standard Q=.707 while designing the box.

Meet Rufus the subwoofer hound (insert barking here). Rufus spends his day guarding the subwoofers. He is sitting on an 12" Adire Shiva I built. I used the Shiva 85L reference design ported to 22hz. This thing really shakes the room.

A picture of my HT setup. I use AR S-50 for the front, an AR Center channel, 2 subwoofers, and AR S-40 for the back (not shown). I have a Sherwood A/V receiver, 5x100watts. Now I need to get rid of the pathetic 19" TV and get a nice 16:9 plasma display. A half decent rack would be good too.  Get rid of those damn "blue & pink" blankets also, they look really bad, whats with you?

I think the first song I will put through the sub is Eminem's new one "Without me" since I only heard it about 5 millions times while I was working on the sub this weekend.

The subwoofer is finished for now. I used automotive paint on it. I used primer, basecoat & clearcoat combination. The primer & basecoat came out perfectly. I had lots of problems with the clearcoat. No matter what I tried it "orange-peeled" on me really bad. I have narrowed it down to either too high of temperature when I painted or my compressor doesn't have enough CFM.

I am going to paint some smaller projects so I can learn how to paint better. I will eventually come back and put on a good clear coat. It is hard to see the slight orange peel from these pictures, lucky for me. The sub measures 36x36x12.5 inches.

Once I get the amp working I will put up some SPL meter readings with charts.
