1997 Mazda Miata STO #842 of 1500 Internet Buyers Terms I purchased this car in Nov. 2003 from ebay from a private seller. It was a great experience driving it back from Pittsburgh, PA. The gentleman who sold it was extremely helpful. I have had several other friends purchase vehicles over the internet without incident.
Here are my 7 terms: 1. Agree on Total price 2. Non-refundable deposit of $1000 received within 3 business days 3. Balance of payment received within 30days 4. Car delivery is FOB Origin Albuquerque within 30days. A 14-day extension is available providing #3 is completed. 5. NM License Plates are non-transferable. The NM license plate will not remain with the vehicle. The NM license plate will remain in my possession. 6. Any inspections you want done will need to be paid for upfront. 7. If you want to use an escrow service, I have no problem with it. The only one I will use is www.escrow.com because it received a recommendation from www.miata.net There are too many fake escrow services out there.
Buying a car off the internet can be scary, as is selling one. These rules are designed to help protect the seller. I will help will making the transfer as simple and painless as possible.
Flying in to drive the vehicle back I will help with the following: Pickup at airport if flying in to drive vehicle back. Albuquerque Airport code is ABQ Recommend a good hotel to stay at. Days Inn Albuquerque Northeast. 10321 Hotel Ave. I-40 Exit 165 & Eubank. (505)275-3297 around $50 a night. Help with getting temporary license plate. I dont know exactly what is involved here but I think the State of NM has to issue it since the car is currently titled in NM. The MVD department of NM is very unorganized. They will tell you 1 thing and when you show up will totally change their minds. Getting a temporary license plate is totally the responsibility of the buyer. MVD Express might be also be able to issue one. I would start with them over the NM MVD. AAA might also be able to issue one. This needs to be verified but I think as a minimum they are going to require: A valid drivers license, Bill of Sale, Title, a second form of ID. A mortgage statement, phone bill, utiltiy bill with the address on your drivers license would be prudent to bring. The bill of sale can be downloaded off their website. If you want to use a bill of sale from your state that is acceptable. The title I have is clear with no leins. Everthing else I would bring as a precaution, otherwise you may be stuck here in Albuquerque. Or you could drive the car back without a license plate and take a chance on not getting a ticket. I believe the fine in NM is $100+ for operating a vehicle without a valid license plate.
Having the car shipped back If you are shipping the car you will have to make the arrangements. The car is FOB Orgin Albuquerque which means you setup the shipping, you pay for the shipping, you are responsible for the car during shipping, and you file any claims against shipping damage. I will deliver the car to the shipper with the agreed terms. I will take pictures of the car condition at the shippers lot. If there is any shipping damage these pictures will greatly help your cause. Once I drop off the car at the shippers lot it is your responsiblity.
Final Thoughts Of course life if full of surprises and sometimes even the best plans don't go off without a hitch. I am will to work out the issues to the best I can. But at some point if you continually make excuses and unreasonable demands I will call off the deal.
If you have any problems, comments, suggestions please let me know. I can be e-mailed at ed@i40computers or (505)440-8058.
